1995 – F.W. Olin Science Center, Connecticut College, New London, CT “The rooftop observatory required a standalone structure to reduce the transference of typical building vibrations.” The design strategically placed the new science center at a prominent location viewable from the main entrance at Mohegan Avenue. Collegiate Gothic-style buildings make up most of Connecticut College’s campus architecture. The new science center was a “combination of Gothic outline with modern detailing,” with a gable roof at each of the four corners and a domed observatory. The exterior stone blends harmoniously with the existing campus architecture. With views of the Thames River, the building houses Physics, Astronomy, Geophysics, Arboretum, and teaching labs for Chemistry and Biology.
