Goodwin University proudly marked a significant milestone with the groundbreaking of RiverTech, Connecticut’s first inter-district magnet technical high school. The event celebrated a bold new vision for education—one that bridges high school, college, and career readiness in a single, integrated experience.
RiverTech will offer students the opportunity to earn up to 60 college credits through Goodwin University and the University of Bridgeport, enabling them to graduate with an associate degree and a competitive edge, whether they choose to pursue higher education or enter the workforce.
“This is a building like no other in the U.S.,” said Dr. Salvatore Menzo, Superintendent of Goodwin University Magnet Schools. “Our students will have access to professionals from the field of work they are interested in. Both students and teachers will stay connected to real-world skills and evolving industry standards.”
The school’s two-story Business Center will host industry partners, including General Dynamics Electric Boat. On the fourth floor, RiverTech will feature an International Space Station simulation, which is a partnership with the Victorian Student Science Education Centre in Melbourne, Australia. Students will explore a replica of the Martian surface as astronauts, while classmates operate Mission Control, conducting experiments and applying technical skills from the school’s four academic pathways.
“I’m incredibly proud to be here today as someone who grew up in this neighborhood and as a Goodwin alumnus,” said East Hartford Mayor Connor Martin. “I’ve seen this campus evolve from what was once an industrial wasteland into a vibrant educational hub.”
Goodwin University President Mark Scheinberg emphasized the school’s innovative model, “RiverTech is a bridge. Students don’t have to choose between college and career. They can do both.”
Student Zaidyn Williams shared his excitement, “I’m ready to get hands-on experience, earn certifications, and set myself up for a stable career in a field that’s only going to keep growing.”
RiverTech is a model for the future of education, offering students a seamless path from high school to higher education and into the workforce.
