Construction is officially underway on the new Greylock Elementary School, marking a significant milestone in North Adams' investment in early childhood education.
“The Greylock School project has been a long time coming. It represents a meaningful investment in our children, our families and the future of our city,” North Adams’ Mayor Jennifer Macksey declared at the official groundbreaking ceremony of the new Greylock School.
Designed by TSKP STUDIO, the new 73,000 sq. ft. elementary school will replace the existing 73-year-old Greylock Elementary School, addressing longstanding mechanical, electrical, accessibility, and infrastructure deficiencies. In its place, the city is moving forward with a safe, flexible, and welcoming environment for early learners.

Located on Phelps Avenue and designed around contemporary educational practices, the new school supports student-centered teaching with age-appropriate classrooms, collaborative learning spaces, and flexible environments that can adapt to evolving instructional methods. The design also strengthens connections between the school, its surrounding neighborhood, and the broader North Adams community, reinforcing the school's role as both an educational resource and a civic asset.
The new Greylock Elementary School reflects years of educational planning, community engagement, and collaboration among school leaders, municipal officials, educators, and residents. It represents a moment of forward momentum for North Adams and a meaningful step toward a future-focused learning environment for children, families, educators, and the community as a whole.
Construction is underway, with the new school anticipated to welcome students in fall 2027.
