In November 2025, the Worcester Art Museum (WAM) unveiled its Arms and Armor Galleries to the public. Home to one of the largest collections in the United States, second only to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, WAM’s collection features over 1,000 pieces spanning medieval and Renaissance Europe, alongside striking examples from Greece, Egypt, Japan, India, and other cultures.
The newly designed galleries allow visitors to explore nearly the entire collection thanks to expanded square footage, soaring 16-foot ceilings, and an innovative open storage system. Dramatic displays in the front galleries invite immediate engagement, while the rear galleries offer behind-the-scenes access to objects in open storage, creating a unique and immersive experience.
Accessibility is the central focus of the redesign. Visitors can enjoy hands-on activities, interactive technology providing detailed information about stored items, engaging maps, special demonstration events, and ample seating to explore the galleries at a comfortable pace.
TSKP x IKD, in collaboration with Jeffrey L. Forgeng, Higgins Curator of Arms and Armor and Medieval Art at WAM, and Museum leadership, designed the galleries to be inclusive, educational, and visually compelling. The TSKP STUDIO team also supported the project with building system upgrades, façade and window replacement, temporary exhibitions, lighting system improvements, and art handling and collection storage relocation.
The Arms and Armor Galleries now invite visitors of all ages and backgrounds to step into a world of history, artistry, and cultural exchange that bring WAM’s extraordinary collection vividly to life.
