TSKP STUDIO conducted a feasibility study which led to a successful referendum to reoccupy the vacant and historically protected former Cheney High School, as part of a new 5th/6th Grade Academy, utilizing the adjacent Elisabeth M. Bennet Academy as part of the facility plan. All the 5th grade students in the district, formerly housed at neighborhood schools, attend the Cheney-Bennet Academy. The adjacent Bennet Academy currently houses the 6th Grade program for the district.
The Cheney complex includes the 1926 former Cheney School Building, the 1916 Boiler House and the 1918 Fire House and is located within the Cheney brothers National Historic District. As such the study required reviews and approvals from both local and state historic preservation offices, all of which was managed by TSKP.
