TSKP STUDIO's design for the renovation of the Main Lobby of this distinguished museum transforms the space into a soaring cathedral-like gateway to the museum galleries and exhibits beyond. The design removes a portion of the third floor of the neo-gothic 1842 Wadsworth Building. The remaining second and third floor galleries in this wing are linked across the lobby by bridges of glass floor panels set in steel frames. Steel and glass windows set in limestone arches run the length of the lobby and reveal the Museum Shop to one side and the Auerbach Art Library to the other. To complete the renovation, world renowned Sol LeWitt created two large scale wall drawings for the north and south walls. For this project, TSKP STUDIO won three awards: the AIA Interiors Honor Award, the AIA Connecticut Design Award and the AIA / CSA desgn award.
