Originally designed by architects Stephenson and Greene in the Colonial Revival style with Palladian windows and a colonnaded front portico. Phoebe Griffin Noyes was an artist and teacher. Her portrait hangs in the Reading Room of the library to honor her passion for teaching children.
Historic library originally built in 1897 and expanded in 1995. The interior renovation addresses necessary maintenance needs, and allocation of space to better meet the needs of today’s patrons and those of the future. Improvements create more open space, update meeting room with easy-to-use technology, new small conference room for 6-8 people, additional small study & mentoring rooms, and dedicated Teen area. The interior renovations complement the original building architecture. A patio and garden was added to create an outdoor space for patrons to gather, read and enjoy. Interior work involves MEP improvements, new finishes and new efficient lighting.
