Eastern Greenwich Civic Center had a long and exemplary history of supporting the Greenwich community. The new Civic Center will honor that history by creating flexible spaces to host all manner of games and events, such as athletics, dances, concerts, picnics, crafts, classes, and exhibits. Design is reminiscent of the movement of water reflective of the nearby Long Island Sound. Preserving community character and green space is important. The 20-acre parcel has natural wetlands at the nexus of Rosa Hartman Park and Binney Park and a wealth of mature trees, creating a visual screen. The site will utilize bio-retention basins and porous paver parking areas to protect wetland soils and natural vegetation. With limited custodial resources, materials were selected for aesthetics and durability. Program: Two-court gymnasium, activity rooms, warming kitchen, lounge, playground, and outdoor gathering space.
