TSKP STUDIO's major addition and renovation adds 70,000 SF to the existing 60,000 SF community center. Program includes an art gallery, an expanded nursery and day care center, a new Olympic size pool, a supplemental gymnasium with elevated running track, exercise and locker rooms to serve 800 members, meeting rooms, lounges, a library and administrative areas.
The challenge was to create harmony between the new and the existing, and to provide a new entry. The new entrance and arrival court are reoriented to the rear of the original complex, closer to parking. Two covered walkways coverage at the new entrance beneath a dramatic skylight. Upon entering the center, one is drawn into the sky lit art gallery that functions as the building’s social center and community meeting place.
Located at the core of the building, the gallery is a reference point from which one can see other areas of the Community Center.
