With a projected energy efficiency of 41.9% better than the prescribed energy codes at the time of permitting, the new 225,000 sq. ft. Guilford High School will earn the Town financial incentives from the local power company totaling more than $400,000.
The high school serves approximately 1,100 students in grades 9-12 in a physical environment that fosters community and collaborative learning in ways that a traditional school does not. Features of this environment include: Transparency throughout the building; Prevalence of natural light throughout; Effective Multi-purposing of Spaces; and Classroom clustering around collaborative spaces.
Built on the same site as the existing facility, students were engaged throughout the construction process. The facility was designed and engineered by architects, TSKP STUDIO and Kohler Ronan Engineers.
“Guilford's new high school gets it right in every way -- it is visually impressive, sure, but much more important is that it meets the goal we set of encouraging learning at the highest levels. It works smoothly with our faculty to enable learning in ways that we could not have imagined before, it enables constant collaboration, and it encourages use of latest technologies. The performing arts center is outstanding. And it was completed well under the authorized budget.”
