As a result of district consolidation, planning and design for a new 160,000 SF middle school grades 6-8 replaces the existing on the same site. Located on a tight suburban 17-acre campus, construction of the new Middle School occurs in three phases. The first phase, completed in the first summer, included abatement and demolition of the existing auditorium and administrative offices. Phase two is construction of the new school and phase 3 will demolition of the remainder of the existing facility. The existing Middle School pool and gymnasiums will be salvaged as a stand-alone facility for Parks & Recreation use. The initial feasibility study to consolidate two schools into a single, new or renovated, facility was completed by TSKP STUDIO.
The new school is designed as three “houses” with STEAM labs, an innovation learning laboratory, and maker space. The school meets CT High Performance Building Standards and is LEED Silver equivalent.
