TSKP STUDIO has been selected to work with Manchester Community College on the design of a magnet school, the Great Path Academy. The project will entail approximately 75,000 square feet of new construction on the College campus in Manchester, Connecticut.
The mingling of a secondary school and a community college, referred to as a 'Middle College High School', is still relatively rare in the Northeast, but has been gaining national attention. Its mission is to provide secondary students an opportunity to accelerate their post-secondary studies by supplementing their high school program with college coursework.
According to Whit Iglehart, a partner in the firm and project director, "The project requires a design approach that will result in both a distinct identity for the Academy within the campus environment and a full integration into the life of the College, goals that are seemingly in conflict. We look forward to exploring the opportunities for an architecture that supports the mission, while building upon the fabric of the existing campus."
The year 2005 marks the 35th anniversary for TSKP STUDIO, which has earned a reputation for excellence in planning and design, noted for the bold and fresh manner in which its designs engage the built environment and spark the imagination. This project will draw upon the vast experience of the firm in both higher education and K-12 building programs, such as the Greater Hartford sister Academies of the Arts / Math & Science at the Learning Corridor, adjacent to Trinity College.
