Rogers School Wins US Dept of Education Green Ribbon School Award

Rogers School in Stamford Wins US DOE Green Ribbon The Rogers International School in Stamford, Connecticut, designed by TSKP STUDIO was recently selected as a Green Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, recognizing it as unique learning laboratory. The award acknowledges educational facilities and programs that reduce environmental impact; enable environmental education; and promote better health.

The design of the school facility and the site support a curriculum around environmental literacy in grades kindergarten through 8th grade for 800 students. The school features a large green roof and embraces a central engineered bio-filtration raingarden which supports a natural habitat and enables the study of natural resources, ecosystems, conservation, and pollution. Solar panels and a wind turbine along with a demonstration panel support the study of renewable energy.

In addition to receiving LEED Silver Certification from the USGBC, the school has been named an official U.S. Fish and Wildlife Schoolyard Habitat and Wildlife Sanctuary by the Natural Audubon Society. These distinctions provide professional development resources for educators as they develop curriculum.
