The Town of Bloomfield’s roots begin with agriculture and include a bustling Town Center. The newly reimagined 28,000 sq. ft. Prosser Library will be built on the existing site directly across from the Town Hall in Bloomfield’s Town Center. With a new entry plaza, expanded parking, and access to public transportation, the new Prosser Library is part of the Town's vision to revitalize and bring the energy back to the Town Center.
With considerable input from the community, the design incorporates amenities that are important to the community and are fully accessible. Inside, the library will have flexible space for programming, a café, and dedicated areas for teens and children. The large Children’s area includes an art wall, middle-school space, computers with age-appropriate programs, activity tables, children’s height book stacks, and various seating options. The Teen Center includes gamily, computers, activity tables, and flexible furnishing options. Patrons can choose to sit by a cozy fireplace, group and individual study areas, computers or take advantage of the meeting and group rooms.
Due to consistent flood issues, the new building is raised above flood level with an open parking area below. Using the existing landscape and waterway as an asset of the library, there will be a new pedestrian bridge crossing Wash Brook that will bring patrons to an exciting south-facing entry portico.
