For the City of Hartford, TSKP STUDIO designed an expansion and renovation of an existing school to accommodate an 800 student Pre-Kindergarten - 6th grade population. The challenge was to expand and renovate a 1920's school building into a model urban school on a 3.15 acre site. TSKP STUDIO's design added 98,700 SF to this existing L-shaped building, creating a central courtyard, underground parking and a new main entrance framed by two old growth trees on a side street. The enclosed courtyard, creates a secure and fun environment for outdoor recreational and educational activities before, during and after school. The two-story addition includes a new library, auditorium, cafeteria, and new classrooms. The existing building was renovated to reflect the original era of construction, while making it 100% handicap accessible and fully cabled for computers and multi-media instruction.
