This new 74,500 SF middle college high school, sited on the 160-acre college campus, provides an innovative learning environment that encourages students in grades 10-12 to supplement their high school program with college coursework.
The challenge for design was to create an academy that is seamlessly linked to the existing college, while projecting its own sense of place and community. Program includes a cafeteria expansion and new specially equipped instructional spaces, which include seminar classrooms and a variety of science, computer, culinary, and language labs. Telecommunication, data and audio-visual systems are designed to college standards.
A two-story atrium serves as the eastern entry for the college, as well as gallery, lobby and lounge for the secondary school population, enabling student interaction and study groups in a highly visible atmosphere. The public spaces are flooded with natural light, pastoral views of the campus and furnished with data and power embedded tables and chairs. Serving the high school program during the day and the College program at night, this facility maximizes public construction dollars and operating budgets.
