This 17,000 SF new building adjoins an 11,000 SF existing building, and provides the school with modern facilities for math, sciences and studio arts. TSKP STUDIO's design achieves harmony with the historic village-like campus through scale, form and materials. The brick exterior, wood trim, gently sloping copper roofing and central chimney/light monitor all complement the traditional architecture of the campus. The new building provides six new science labs, a greenhouse, and computer labs. Renovations to the existing building resulted in studios for ceramics, painting, computer graphics, photography dark room; and exhibit gallery. New construction is held away, yet connected to the existing structure. A pair of grand stairs that echo the slope of site, originate on the upper level and work through the two volumes connecting all levels. A glass connector between buildings creates two exterior courtyards: one, opening northward, serves as an entry to the new and existing structures; the other courtyard, opening southward, is enclosed making it well suited for outdoor studies, exhibits and gatherings. The main entrance faces east and gives the ‘commencement lawn’ a more formal enclosure and ceremonial path.
