Bowers Elementary School has secured a $2.4 million Investment Tax Credit (ITC), recognizing the Town of Manchester’s continued investment in high-performance, future-ready public schools.
Completed in 2023, the transformed Bowers Elementary is designed as a Net Zero Energy (NZE) school, generating as much energy as it consumes on an annual basis. The renovation and addition modernized more than 65,000 square feet of learning space, introducing flexible classrooms, enhanced safety and circulation, and dedicated STEAM learning environments that support contemporary educational delivery.
The $2.4 million federal ITC was made possible through the integration of a high-efficiency geothermal heating and cooling system and rooftop photovoltaic arrays. These renewable systems significantly reduce reliance on fossil fuels while lowering long-term operating costs for the Town.
Beyond the financial benefit, the ITC reinforces a broader commitment: investing in buildings that actively contribute to student well-being, environmental stewardship, and fiscal responsibility. Bowers Elementary stands as a tangible example of how thoughtful public investment can create schools that perform academically, environmentally, and economically for generations to come.
