TSKP STUDIO is proud to share that the Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center has been recognized with two honors: an AIA New England Merit Award for Excellence in Architecture and the Excellence in Construction Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Connecticut.
The AIA New England Design Awards celebrate design excellence across the region, recognizing architecture that demonstrates innovation, sustainability, and impact within its community. The ABC Excellence in Construction Awards program honors Connecticut’s most innovative and high-quality Merit Shop projects, recognizing the collaborative efforts of the contractor, owner, architect, and engineer in achieving construction excellence.
Built in 1950, the original Eastern Greenwich Civic Center was a beloved community facility that could no longer meet the needs of its growing population. The new Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center represents a thoughtful transformation into a modern, flexible venue designed to serve the community for generations to come.
The building’s design draws inspiration from the nearby Long Island Sound, with forms and materials that evoke the movement of water while preserving the natural beauty of the 20-acre site. Situated between Rosa Hartman and Binney Parks, the project prioritizes environmental stewardship, incorporating bio-retention basins, porous paver parking, and preservation of mature trees and wetlands to maintain the site’s natural character.
Inside, the facility offers a two-court gymnasium, activity rooms, a community lounge, kitchen, classrooms, and outdoor gathering spaces—all designed for flexibility and durability to accommodate athletics, classes, concerts, and town-wide events. With a focus on low-maintenance, long-lasting materials, the Civic Center supports both the daily operations and the long-term sustainability goals of the Town of Greenwich.
