The Planetarium & Astronomy Center at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center has been honored at CREW CT’s 31st Annual Blue Ribbon Awards, receiving the Award for Best Specialty Project Learning Destination, honoring excellence in design and community impact.
Completed in 2025, the 11,000 square foot facility brings astronomy back as a core part of the museum while creating a new place for science education and public engagement in the Stamford region. Located at one of the highest points on the museum’s 118-acre campus, the building fits carefully into its surroundings. Its design takes cues from nearby barns and farm structures while presenting a modern identity focused on exploration and discovery.
The project includes a 100-seat planetarium with a 40-foot dome and advanced projection technology, along with an observatory, classrooms, and flexible learning spaces that support a wide range of educational programs and community events. Since opening, more than 3,100 students from 32 schools have scheduled visits.
This award recognizes the project’s success in creating a welcoming place where people of all ages can learn about science and connect with the world around them.
